My Post Makeup Routine

Hey Fashionistas,

Every makeup lover knows that the makeup routine doesn’t just end with just taking off makeup. Wearing makeup can really clog up your pores or dry up your skin. The post makeup routine is super important for keeping the skin healthy and fresh after a day of full face makeup.

So this is my post makeup routine. Now keep in mind, I don’t wear full face makeup every day so this routine is only after a long day of wearing makeup and I just need to treat myself to a mini spa for my face.

First, I start off with wiping off all my makeup. Me…being the Queen of Extra, of course, I not only have one makeup remover, but three makeup removers. My go to makeup remover is Garnier Skin Active -Micellar Cleansing Water

**Tip of the Day: Never ever ever go to bed with makeup on. It’s extremely bad for your skin. For those of you who are too exhausted to move, let alone go to the bathroom to take your makeup off, my suggestion is to have makeup wipes near your bed. Even if you can’t take all your makeup off, makeup wipes get most of it and at least will allow your skin to breathe when you go to bed.

With all my makeup off, I grab my Kiehl’s cleanser to wash and clean my face. My skin is very sensitive so it took me forever to find this beauty! It is strong enough to really clean my skin but soft enough where it doesn’t feel like my skin is being scrubbed raw.

Now, this is my favorite part! After a good cleanse, I like to rehydrate my face with some face masks. My go to face mask is Sephora’s Face Mask. I’ve used both the eye and face mask in Pearl and Avocado.

Depending on the lipstick that I wore (matte lipstick), I would use a lip scrub or a lip mask. My current favorite lip mask is by Bite Beauty in Champagne. To make a lip scrub, I like to mix it with sugar.

Then I’ll put on a thin coat of Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm to keep my lips nice and soft.

The last and final step of my mini face spa treatment is moisturizer.

**Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I didn’t take many photos for this blog since I was too excited and forgot 😦

I took my very first cycling class yesterday!! I’ve never gone cycling before but I’ve heard amazing things about it especially from one of my really good friends, Sarah Gaines of Fit University. She’s a certified cycling instructor! So when I went yesterday, I was thrilled to finally give it a try!

When I arrived, everyone working there was super friendly and let me tell you, the place so clean! Now I’m not sure if all cycling places offer these but at Flywheel, they had free water, apples, and clean towels. It didn’t have that gym smell or yucky air you feel when you walk into a gym or a class. I was immediately pleased with the aesthetics.

Cycling itself was really fun! I got a full body work out and was thoroughly pleased with how I felt afterwards. I’m going to be honest though, it was pretty tough for the first time. When I started “walking” aka biking but standing up, it was a huge adjustment. You had to keep to the tempo but at the same time keep up your pace. I might have almost tripped or felt my hip almost pop out because I picked up my speed to catch up with everyone.

My favorite part of the class was when I was reminded of how awesome and amazing my body is. These past two weeks since Lent has started has really taken a hit on my eating disorder thoughts. I gave up **social media for Lent, which means I’ve had a lot of quiet time lately…which leads to have a lot of time to think – one of those thoughts being my eating disorder. In the middle of the class, I saw myself in the mirror and saw this strong women who was having fun and smiling even though I was exhausted from constantly moving my legs. I felt beautiful, sexy (one word I’ve never ever used on myself before) in the nicest and non-objective way possible, and confident for the first time in a while. I literally felt like I was FLYING!

So what are my final thoughts? Absolutely amazing!
Would I go to another class? Most definitely, though probably not too many times since it is a bit on the pricey side.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, I would. It’s fun and exhilarating!

Of course, right after class Rachel and I went straight to Candle Cafe, a vegan place a couple blocks down, to refuel our body with yummy food!

How I didn’t let my Eating Disorder take away my Love for Fashion

Hey Fashionistas,

Soo…February is National Eating Disorder Awareness month and yes, I know I’m a little late in posting this but it’s been a pretty rough month for myself in terms of eating disorders. Chinese New Year was this month which means holiday eating anxiety was constantly in the back of my mind. Looking back at my journey to recovery and staying in recovery, one thing I am glad for is that I didn’t lose my love for fashion to ED.

img_0890

The fashion industry is known for both women AND men to have eating disorders, and yes I have been one of them. Now my eating disorder didn’t start in the fashion industry but working in the fashion industry for a few summers definitely played a huge part in my ED. I was never a model but I was constantly striving to be skinny and beautiful like my coworkers who **seemed to have more self control when it came to choosing a salad over a burger.

The longer I stayed working in the fashion industry, the deeper I fell into my eating disorder. I hated my body and started getting extremely scared of trying and buying clothes. I constantly was trying out different diets and even when my fashion internships were completed and I was back in school, I was still obsessed with how I looked and wanting to be perfect in my clothes. The world I loved so much was starting to suck me in deeper and deeper into my ED thoughts. Deep down, I knew that I needed to stop this unhealthy cycle but I was too scared. I was convinced that it meant I would have to leave the fashion industry, which eventually I did.

However as I started to take steps to recovery, I realized one thing: Just because I was no longer working in the industry didn’t mean that fashion was gone. No, absolutely not. Growing up, I lived and breathed fashion. It was a part of me and my way of expressing myself. I had convinced myself that fashion was about looking skinny and perfect, but in reality, fashion is about expressing who I was as a person – strong, brave, and beautiful because God made me that way. As Blair Waldorf says, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.” So true!! After realizing that, my love for fashion came back. Yes, I no longer work in the fashion industry but my love for fashion is still alive – through this blog! This blog has allowed me to pursue and express my fashion sense through my own eyes and no one else’s.

Sure, I still have days where my eating disorder thoughts are out in full blown force and not being able to wear certain clothing sizes still gives me anxiety. But I know fashion was and still is my way of expressing to the world my inner beauty and how I see myself. And NOTHING…ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will take that away from me ever again.
