5 Fall Essentials + mini Summer Recap

Long time no blog!! It’s been literally months since I’ve blogged and it feels great to be back. Last time I wrote, I had decided to start my very first makeup challenge, where for 30 days I had to only use only certain makeup products in hope that I would finish the products (hit pan). Ummm….well, that did not work out at all, but I’ll save that for another post 😉

So before we move on to present day Fall, how was everyone’s Summer? Any new products or fashion favorite finds? My summer was full of summer floral dresses, summer tans, and summer bikinis.

And fast forwarding to present day – Fall is finally here (kind of). I say kind of, since if you’re from NYC, you would know the weather has been windy but still pretty warm on some days. Regardless though, Fall season is upon us and do you know what that means?? Wardrobe change! Bring out the long sleeve shirts and puffy vests, with a side of Pumpkin Spice Lattes please!

The past years, I’ve always been into lots and lots of flannel and plaid. However, I’ve just been really into more muted tones, one solid color, basic and simple outfits. So to get into the simple and classy Fall vibe, here are my 5 Fall Essentials:

Simple but fun long sleeve shirt

This is literally perfect to keep you warm on cooler days but still cool enough to keep you from melting like Olaf from Frozen. A great place to shop for these basic long sleeve shirts is H&M. They have a variety of colors and are super cheap for those on a clothing budget! My go-to long sleeve shirt is my “Cool as a Moose” shirt that I bought during my trip to Maine.

IMG_2801

Puffy Vest

For an added layer of warmth for those who are forever cold, throw on a comfy puffy vest! I tend to go with a basic color like white, navy, or black so it’ll match all my clothes. If you tend to wear solid basic colors more often, feel free to play up your vest with a bright color or fun pattern! To find a great vest in all colors, I would recommend going to Uniqlo. (Just in time for Cyber Monday!) Their vests are super simple but have great quality to really keep you warm.

Gold Nail Polish

It’s the holiday season which means of course, we have to be extra and add some sparkles and glitter in our outfits! To still keep things simple but up the glam a bit, I always reach for my trusty bronze gold nail polish. Gold bronze goes with everything, especially during the holiday season. I’m super loyal to my OPI gold nail polish in Chestnut About You.

Statement Bag

An outfit isn’t complete without a good statement bag and Fall is literally the perfect time to reach for a bold color or patterned bag. If your outfit already has a lot of colors, go for a caramel brown tote bag that will balance the outfit but still capture a passerby’s attention. One of my favorite brands to buy bags/totes from is Kate Spade. Their handbags come in all different shapes and colors and honestly, I could just get lost in this store.

Dark Red Lipstick

This year, skip the classic red lipstick and go for a darker tone! It’s still red so I’m not deviating too far from the holiday but a dark red definitely spices things up a bit, am I right? I usually rarely ever/never wear dark lipstick but I’m actually pretty impressed with this dark red I cam across from Colourpop. It wasn’t extremely dark but it was dark enough to wear that people who knew me had to take a double take on my new look 😉

If I were to go to a country music festival, I would wear….

Hey Fashionistas,

Ok…so Confession time: I am absolutely obsessed with country music! I know you’re probably thinking, what is a city girl doing listening to country music?? I mean when you first meet me, you can easily guess that I listen to pop music (which I do) but more importantly, I really really enjoy country music. As a matter fact, that’s all I listen to in the summer…unless I’m working out. I just love me some Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Maddie & Tae, Thomas Rhett…oh the list just goes on and on!!

Now as much as I loveee country music, I actually have yet to go to a country music concert/festival. I know..I know…it’s awful, really awful…practically a sin!

But if I were to go to a country music festival, I would wear…

The Classic plaid shirt, blue jeans

Pick-me-ups of the Week

Hey Fashionistas,

It’s been pretty rainy and dreary this week which makes me…pretty sad. So naturally, I did what I always do to cheer myself up – put on something cute!

5 fashion thoughts I’ve had this week

Hey Fashionistas,

Have you ever had those moments when you see something unusual or a random thought pops into you head and you can’t stop thinking about it?? Like ALL. DAY. LONG???

Like for instance did you ever wonder…

How do ladies put on makeup on the subway? I mean not just lipstick but the works, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow…everything! Granted, they’ve probably have had years of practice but how do you keep your arms so still? I just started getting into makeup and the only thing I can put on is lipstick…and that is when the train has stopped at a station! So props to all you beautiful ladies out there who can put on makeup on a moving train – YOU GO GIRL!

How do you keep curls so perfectly curled all day? I love curling my hair but the curls are gone within an hour….maybe…if I’m lucky. I mean I’ve looked at tutorials, tried out different tips, and it never stays all day. My hair is naturally very straight so yes, it takes a longer time to curl my hair. But how do you ladies get it to stay? I’ve used tons of hairspray and then my hair becomes stiff and I’m practically suffocating in a cloud of hairspray. I’ve also tried curling my hair after not washing it for a day or two and it stays..but then my hair feels gross.

How old is too old to wear bows? I absolutely love love loveee bows! More than half of my headbands have bows on it, so I guess at 22, it might not always be best to wear bows on a headband….but what about just putting your hair up in a half up do and then tying it with a bow? Is that acceptable for an adult? Then again…. I do consider myself a child at heart ❤

Is brown and black really a fashion no-no or does it not matter anymore? I have these super cute brown suede boots that I usually wear with everything. Yesterday, however, I wore my black Michael Kors pants to work and slipped into my trusty brown boots and I felt super self conscious about making a fashion boo-boo. Now normally, I’m all for you wear what you want and you rock it! But I don’t know….is it really that color clashing/ not fashionable to wear black pants and brown suede boots? Calling for a friend….

Do you ever wish that your Pinterest board would come to life? As a fashionista, I find a lot of my fashion inspiration and clothing ideas on Pinterest. I must spend at least 1 hour or so pinning clothes and shoes every day. Sometimes I just wish that I can wake, open my closet, and all the clothes that I pinned had magically appeared in my wardrobe. I guess a girl can dream…

5 Fashion Related Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Hey Fashionistas,

Can we talk about how I experienced snow this week….in April?? What. Is. This. Mess?!  I was in Boston last week and I woke up Sunday morning to snow outside the window! And then two days later it was in the 50s! Ugh literally can’t even…

Anyways moving on….by now, you probably have gotten a pretty good idea of my fashion style and who I am. But did you know that…

1. I’m actually awful at putting on makeup. In college, I had my wonderful roommate, Katelyn to do my makeup for any and all occasion. Now that we live across the country from each other, I have to be self sufficient. It’s a good thing the salespeople at ELF Cosmetics are super nice and patient. I’ve actually become pretty good friends with them.

2. The only time I have a full face of makeup is on a Friday night – when I decide to stay in and practice putting on makeup.

IMG_2468

That minnie mouse sweater though

3. I actually hated the color pink for about 2 -3 years in middle school. It reminded me of pepto bismo.

4. Like Cher from Clueless, I prefer to take pictures when I try on something new rather than trusting the mirror. As much as I love mirrors, I don’t fully trust them because depending on the angles and lighting, I can look great but in reality, it’s really not a good look for me.  With pictures, I can still see the new look after I leave the store without all the bright lights and mirror angles that sometimes can cloud my judgement.

IMG_2482

5. Even though, I’m a NYC girl at heart, my favorite article of clothing is my Patriots sweater that my sister got for me for Christmas. #sorrynotsorry

Charming Charlies

Hey Fashionistas,

I haven’t done one of these in ages so here it is – Another boutique review!! Charming Charlies is a girl’s dream store for ones who are all about those accessories. It literally has every accessories a girl can imagine – in every style and color! This gem is on the corner of 5th avenue and 39th st and let me tell you, this place is now officially my go to store for all accessories. Shoutout to my wonderful friend, Jana for introducing me to this store ❤

First of all, let’s just start off with the bright pink doors. If you can’t tell by now, I am obsessed with the color pink so this store definitely caught my heart as I opened the tall doors and walked into my dream closet. Charming Charlies is super 5th avenue chic but extremely affordable. Now as much as I am no longer a college student and am currently working, what girl can’t say to no to affordable prices and sales??

Each station is color coordinated and its wonderful statement necklaces, earrings, and bracelets just sparkle and twinkle everywhere. I was mesmerized by all the jewelry surrounding me but I knew exactly what I was looking for: A bright pink statement necklace that was simple but would give my outfit that pop of color I needed. It was super easy to navigate the store with its color coordination…and not to mention the super helpful and friendly sales associates that are always there to answer any questions.

IMG_2208

Can you tell that this is my favorite station??

Another great thing about this store is that it also sells clothing and other necessary accessories along with the beautiful jewelry. Along the walls of the store are color coordinated dresses, handbags, and shoes that are just perfect for the girly and classy look. After a long day at work, this place is ideal for a quick retail therapy, which of course is exactly what I did on St. Patrick’s day. And…with a Buy one, Get another necklace 50% off sale going on, how could I have not bought something to treat myself??

Charming Charlies is definitely the place to go for accessories of all occasions. Whether you’re going to the office, a girl’s night out, date night, or a special party, there is definitely something for you to always find your sparkle!

Xoxo,

Christine

Now before I move on with the main topic, I just wanted to update you on how the 40-day closet challenge is going. Ummm…to put it in simple terms…..EXTREMELY HARD!! I miss my closet and especially with this super warm weather, I’ve been craving to wear cuter dresses and skirts. But we are getting close to Easter so I’m def going to finish strong. I also  might or might not already be planning a super cute Easter outfit already 😉

Now moving on to the main topic of this post, I just made my very first VLog!! Shout out to Alison from Daily Moves and Grooves for giving me this idea! This first VLog is all about what is in my cotton candy pink tote bag, which I use every day to go to work. I hope you all enjoy it 🙂

What’s in my Closet: Headbands

Hey Fashionistas,

For those who know me, I take great pride in my headband collection. I would say my headband obsession started in high school when I first saw Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl. Seeing her classic style mixed with chic patterns and infamous headbands was inspiring and she automatically became my fashion icon.

headband2

Another reason behind my obsession of headbands is the fact that they were a significant way to accessorize with my high school uniform. Yep! I went to an all-girls private Catholic high school. Uniforms were allll the rave there! From the same button-down or polo shirts to the classic plaid kilt (yes….those are called kilts, not skirts…contrary to what they look like) all the way down to the same knee highs, how is a girl to make her uniform her own style? Accessories, of course! Mine were headbands, though to be honest about 70% of my classmates also accessorized with headbands. #originality

Part of my beautiful organized headband collection!!

Part of my beautiful organized headband collection!!

Since then, I’ve grown my headband collection and now I have about more than 30 headbands. Some call it obsessive, I call it…a lifestyle. Headbands became a part of my wardrobe and they are my go-to pop of color when I wear a more simple outfits.

Like the girly girl I am, you didn’t expect me to just wear a headband to play up a simple outfit? Of course, I had to bring my headbands to the rest of wardrobe! Remember….Headbands are a lifestyle!
